For every individual  there is a unique set of reasons for seeking help through therapy, but some of the most common difficulties which people experience are:

Depression/Anxiety

Low self-esteem

Relationships

Bereavement/Loss

Stress

Addiction

Eating disorders

Workplace issues

Major life changes

Taking control of your life

Approach

I assist each client in a way which uniquely suits that individual.  Everyone is different. Everyone’s needs are different. Through my training and counselling since 1998 I am able to offer various approaches to suit the individual, from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) through to longer-term person-centred work.

Most people find it helpful when therapy places the emphasis on the future whilst also working to release them from negative past events. Sometimes by exploring their personal histories clients can create an awareness of how these events may have led them into patterns of behaviour that no longer work.

The aim of my counselling is to help people to make positive changes to their lives in order to realise their full potential. As therapist I act as the guide for each person’s individual journey, but I remain impartial, thus creating a relationship which is supportive, non-judgmental and safe. The client is in control of both the direction and the destination, taking responsibility for obtaining ownership of his or her life.

Themes

The range of potential issues which arise is limitless, but some of the more regular themes to emerge include:

Understanding choice.

Awareness of your values and beliefs.

Clarifying and setting goals i.e. what you want and how to get it.

Identifying the obstacles which inhibit change/success.

Feeling in control of, and taking responsibility for, your life.

Self-limiting current behaviours which are keeping you ‘stuck’.

Feelings of resentment, of blame and of being a victim.

Feeling overwhelmed, fearful,confused, bored.
